Healthy People, Healthy Carolinas (2017-2023)
Healthy People, Healthy Carolinas is a preventive health initiative funded by The Duke Endowment that aims to reduce chronic disease prevalence with a focus on diabetes, obesity/unhealthy weight and heart disease. The HPHC initiative employs the usage of multi-sector collaboration to improve health outcomes in Fairfield County.
Walkabouts
Research has shown that physical activity improves cognition, concentration, behavior and academic performance. Active students learn better! That is why Fairfield Forward has partnered with Fairfield County School District to provide Walkabouts to Pre-K through 2nd grade students. Walkabouts are short, online modules that incorporate movement-rich activities into lessons reinforcing language arts, math and reading concepts. Students and teachers may access Walkabouts at school or at home. Parents are encouraged to use Walkabouts as a resource to help with homework, studying, or for just plain fun!
CDC’s National Diabetes Prevention Program
The National Diabetes Prevention Program is a 12-month lifestyle change program for prediabetic adults at risk for developing diabetes. The program is designed to help participants adopt healthy behaviors to reduce their risk for diabetes and improve their overall health. The program offers group support and guidance from a trained lifestyle coach using a structured curriculum that will arm participants with the skills they need to be successful.
Farmers Market (2015-present)
Fairfield Forward supports the Fairfield Farmers and Artisans Market in its efforts to provide healthy foods and local goods to county residents and visitors. Located in Downtown Winnsboro behind the Town Clock, the market is open on Saturdays and the last Tuesday evening of the month from May to September. Rain or shine!
